Do you ever have those moments when something seems a bit off but then you get sidetracked and don’t give it another thought? That happens to me quite frequently, particularly when I haven’t had enough caffeine…or when I just need to function in general.
My husband and I usually get up early (5ish) to squeeze in a workout before sending our offspring (currently 9 years old) out the door to school. She stays in bed until her alarm goes off and is usually awake before we come back. Last week, after sending her off to school, I showered and dressed in semi-darkness because my husband had laid back down for a power nap before heading off to work and I was trying not to disturb him.
I picked up my invisible-solid deodorant and noticed that the end looked a bit lumpy, like it had melted. I figured I had left it laying against my phone or iPad, which in turn got too hot and resulted in melting the end of my deodorant. Odd, but no big deal. I applied the product, which was surprisingly soft and a little bit cold, and didn’t give it another thought.
Several hours later, my daughter had a couple of friends over after school and I heard my name amongst many giggles. I came to check on the kiddos asking if they called me and my daughter’s friend said, “She pranked you!” I was able to decipher the words “cream cheese” and “deodorant” between hysterical bouts of laughter and soon determined that my daughter had smeared some cream cheese on the end of my deodorant stick earlier that morning. Understanding dawned on me and, despite my surprised smile, I could see the question in my daughter’s eyes wondering if she was going to get in trouble.
“That’s why my deodorant looked weird today!” I said as I hugged my sweet kiddo, assuring her that she was not in trouble and that she had certainly pranked me quite well. Then I excused myself to wipe whatever remained of the cream cheese from my deodorant (and underarms), and reapply the proper product, sans bagel topping, for I was then paranoid that I might smell like spoiled cream cheese with a hint of baby powder.
Luckily, I didn’t come into close contact with anyone that day who might have noticed my peculiar pungency…or at least, if I did, they were polite enough not to say anything about it. Apparently, if something seems a bit off, I should pay more attention to it…particularly because I found out she was watching some prank videos on YouTube, so that will be something to look forward to.
