This week’s décor almost escaped me. Since Zoe was visiting relatives, she missed the actual sewing portion of last week’s banners and wanted to take part in making one larger Hogwarts banner containing all four house colors…so that’s what we made. The standard T-shirt transfer was too small, so I’ll have to piece together a larger emblem with all four houses together, but the banner looks nice even without a crest. As usual, its imperfections give it personality. We happened to have a spare curtain rod, which will most likely be used to hang it up on whichever wall (within a small portion of the house) she decides. My husband has kindly but firmly advised her he does NOT want the entire house decorated Harry Potter style, which was her original request, so we are letting her decorate her bedroom, bathroom, and hall entryway.
For the past three years, Zoe has had a six-foot poster of the 9 ¾ platform entrance posted on her door. She has decided to change it to the portrait of “The Fat Lady,” who asks students to provide the current Gryffindor password before she permits them to enter the common room. Interestingly, Professor Dumbledore’s passwords tended to be types of food, which sounds brilliant to me because it’s likely I wouldn’t forget a password centering around a meal. Speaking of food, does anyone have any good English recipes? Zoe wants to celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday next week with a feast of English food, so it looks like I’ll be back in the kitchen soon learning about English cuisine.
