You know when your brain has so much information zooming around inside of it that your stream of consciousness darts from one thought to another without any logical transition or explanation? Like when you go into the kitchen for a glass of water but get distracted by the dog wanting a treat or the dishes that need to be washed, and then you completely forget to get a glass of water? Those are my squirrel moments. I’ve been told that the more stressed I am, the more squirrel moments I have…which has evidently proven to be true. But I think it is also part of my personality. I remember things at the oddest of moments and get distracted.
I’m also a bit quirky. I have little idiosyncrasies and oddities as unique as my fingerprints. For as long as I can remember, I have always felt that I never quite fit in. Unlike other kids, I used to eat peanut butter and butter sandwiches. (Yes, you read that right – peanut butter and BUTTER – not PB&Js). I wore thick coke-bottle glasses because, without them, my eyesight was so poor, I was LITERALLY legally blind. English and math were my favorite subjects, which I was told was an odd combination. Much of my time was spent alone. I wanted so desperately to be popular but was simultaneously terrified of any attention. I’ve wanted to be an adult forever, but still feel like a kid playing dress-up who is never taken seriously.
Ladies and gentlemen, it has taken me nearly forty years and I am still awkward as hell. But I have finally decided to embrace my peculiar squirrelings because, despite my best efforts, what you see is what you get. Thus, named for my blog, I give you my mascot and spirit animal, Quirky Squirrel! While she began as an idea, she is very real to me.
You will always find true (and often embarrassing and, hopefully, entertaining) stories and ponderings on my blog, Quirky Squirrel, with new posts currently planned every Friday to launch you into your weekend. I hope you enjoy my new mascot as much as I do.
Until next time, keep it quirky!
