Chasing My Tail

You know those days when your thoughts are pinging in a million different directions, so you write a “To Do” list so you can remember everything? Yeah, that’s where I was this morning and the list is 12 items and counting.

One of the items on my “To Do” list was to get groceries, so I wrote a grocery list (a list within a list!). I asked my husband and my daughter if they wanted me to get anything else. I checked the fridge and the pantry. Then I went online to add my list of groceries to my shopping cart so all I have to do is pick them up. Have you heard of Click List? Someone else does the shopping for you and you just pull into a parking spot and the wonderful people at the grocery store bring you your order. If you haven’t tried it, it’s one of the best things ever! Anyway, one downside is you can’t modify your order past a certain time…which came and went before I realized yet again that I forgot to put something on my list. In this case, it was corn tortillas, but since they aren’t a staple in my house, they will just have to wait until the next order.

In all reality, forgetting one packet of tortillas isn’t too bad compared to, say, putting a brand new bag of cheese in the pantry instead of the refrigerator, so I’ve actually been a lot less squirrely lately. There’s only been one time this year where I completely forgot to put my daughter’s sandwich meat in her lunch… and, in my defense, we put the ingredients in her lunch box separately and she assembles them at lunch time so the bread doesn’t get soggy – slices of French bread, spinach dip, and salami (which she didn’t get that day and informed me thus once she got home from school).

Back to my “To Do” list. The dogs desperately need a bath. A few months ago, I thought I would save some money by giving my two Rottweilers their required vaccines myself, which I got from the Tractor Supply Store, instead of paying the vet’s office four times the amount for a quick checkup and the same shots. It has been … let’s just say several months since the puppers have had a bath (because I can’t remember how long it’s been). Now that my household has stabilized a bit (I started a new full-time job in January), I decided to finally schedule the puppers for baths. Long story a little less long, I spent half an hour trying to find a mobile pet service to make things easier (HAHAHA) but many of them are not accepting new clients or couldn’t answer the phone (probably because they are busy with their clients).

I eventually decided to just use a grooming salon close to my house, since it is a bit cheaper than the mobile salons. When I finally reached a live person who confirmed that they are accepting new patients, I was so happy that I didn’t mind that their next available opening is April. She asked if the pups were up to date on their shots and I informed her that, yes, indeed they were because I had bought and (my husband had) administered them. Then she told me what no one else had bothered to tell me – in the eyes of most vets and grooming salons, vaccinations bought at some feed stores aren’t accepted because they weren’t administered by a vet who could confirm the temperature of the shots were regulated (or something along those lines). So, even though I brought the shots straight home (as directed when I bought them) and didn’t leave them in the car for any length of time other than drive-time, it appears that was all for naught, and the dogs would need to be re-vaccinated. Luckily, the place I had called provides Vet AND Grooming services and she could get them an appointment with the vet in four weeks. Oh, and they can’t schedule a grooming appointment until they confirmed the shots have been administered. So much for trying to save money and time.

So, it would seem that I won’t get to cross off “Dog Baths” on my “To Do” list today. I had tried to bathe them at home when they were puppies, but my husband asked me pretty please not to do that anymore because their hair clogged up the drain and it was a messy process.

Now if only I can remember to pick up the groceries on time. So, how is your day going?
