What would you do if you knew you could not fail?
I have tried – and failed – at many things. The saxophone, piano, softball, volleyball, the sciences, art, cooking, different languages, the list goes on. Some of those things I will never attempt again (like team sports), but some are just on hiatus. In all honesty, I should have failed more…but only because I should have tried more things. Fear sucks. Fear of failure has been damn near paralyzing. I still suffer from this affliction, but I am working on it.
Some things are worth trying over and over again, no matter how many times you “fail” or how long it takes. Some dreams take years to reach – not for any negative reason, but because they are just that grand. When I was younger, I liked the idea of New Year’s Resolutions, but I don’t remember ever sticking to one. Instead of resolutions for the New Year, I’m setting goals and making new habits for myself. Small, attainable actions that will add up to steady progress, no matter how slow. After all, how do you eat an elephant? Answer: One bite at a time. Of course, I don’t think I would ever eat an elephant. Unless I was starving. They are more like huge pets.
I love a good quote. One of my favorites, which I have posted in my home office, is: “A year from now, what will you wish you had done today?”
Do you have any New Year’s Resolutions? Is there something you’d love to do but are afraid to try? What would you do if you knew you could not fail? Let me know in the comments. I wish you a safe and Amazing New Year.
I’m going to publish my book.
